We'll be closed on Monday, May 29, in observance of
Memorial Day.
We're also closed on Sunday, May 28, and will be closed every Sunday until after Labor Day.
Even when we're not open, our
catalog and
online resources are still available, and other librarians are answering questions at
AskAwayIllinois.

Next year, our
library catalog network will become part of a much larger group within the
Prairie Area Library System. The new catalog will include items owned by
more than 200 libraries, from the Indiana border to the Iowa side of the Quad Cities area.
PALS is currently (through June 1) taking suggestions on what to name the new catalog. If you have a good idea,
send it in. Or you can
vote for a name that's already being considered.
We really want a better name for a computer system than
HAL.

We're no long a member of the ListenIllinois digital audiobook consortium, due to expansion of the service and change in its pricing structure. Thanks to everyone who borrowed books on our players during the past two years!

We have several business lunch events coming up in May:
Chicago Bulls legend
Bob Love is the featured speaker at this month's
Homer Township Chamber of Commerce membership lunch meeting, sponsored by the Library's business outreach project. You don't need to be a Chamber member to attend this special event.
After a career as the Bulls' leading scorer, Love landed in menial jobs because of a severe stuttering problem. When in his 40s, he overcame his impediment with therapy and is back in the game as the Bulls' Director of Community Relations. Love speaks about overcoming adversity, personal discipline, and his five rules for the game of life.

After a series of previews at the Library, local schools, and other places during the last two months, our grant-funded Bookmobile officially rolls into service today. The vehicle will alternate each week between a "
Blue Route" and a "
Green Route". To help us celebrate our maiden voyages into the neighborhoods during these first two weeks, you can enter a prize drawing when you visit the Bookmobile.
The
Blue Route is covered this week:
- Monday afternoon -- Spring Meadows, Crystal Lake Estates, Rolling Glen, Victoria Crossing.
- Tuesday afternoon -- Whispering Pines, Karen Springs, Broken Arrow, Willow Walk.
- Wednesday morning -- Marian Village, Cross of Glory, Founders Crossing.
- Wednesday afternoon -- Oak Valley, Meadowcrest.
- Saturday morning -- Sears Essentials, Culver Park, Jewel/Osco, Parker Ridge Park.
For a map, schedule of stops, and other information, see our
Bookmobile page, stop by the Library, or call us at 708-301-7908. Next week: The
Green Route.
