Aaron Elster is a child survivor of the Holocaust. He will be speaking about the Holocaust, his life, and skills he needed to survive. Mr. Elster's story will show us what we can learn from the past.

Location: Homer Township Public Library
Homer Township Public Library is hosting a special teen event featuring Deputy Nancy Reynolds from the Will County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Reynolds will present information on becoming a police officer and different careers in the department. If you are a teen interested in a career in law enforcement, this is a great opportunity to find out more about the profession. Snacks provided by Enzo’s.

Firefighter Danielle Fary will talk about her profession and experience as a firefighter. If you’ve ever though of a career as a firefighter and/or are interested in learning about this exciting profession, this is a must come to event.

The Importance of Science Essay Contest



The Importance of Science in Our Lives
Essay Contest

Deadline: April 12, 2007

Contest Guidelines:
Entrants must be enrolled in grades 6-12.
Entrants may submit one essay only.
Essay must answer one of the following questions,


  • What is the importance of science in our lives?

  • Why is science important to you?

Maximum length is 600 words (about 2 pages double- spaced, 12 point font).
Essays must be original, unpublished, and written with no outside assistance.
Essays will not be returned.
Entries must be received by April 12, 2007.
Please do not include any personal information on or within the essay.
Entries may be returned to the reference desk.

During 2006-2007, Homer Township Public Library was awarded a collection development grant that allows us to expand our Science Collection.
“Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). “
