Small businesses start @ your library®

Homer Public Library and Woman's Day magazine want to know how you've used the library to start your own small business
Every year, more than 500,000 entrepreneurs start new businesses in the United States. But how and where to they get the resources and support it takes to succeed? The answer is @ your library.
This spring, the Homer Public Library, the American Library Association and Woman’s Day magazine want to know how people in our community have used the library to start their small businesses. From now until May 10, women entrepreneurs over the age of 18 can their story in 700 words of less to womansday@ala.org. Four stories will be featured in the March 2008 issue of Woman’s Day.
The initiative is part of a program sponsored by Woman’s Day and the American Library Association’s Campaign for America’s Libraries, a multi-year public awareness and advocacy campaign designed to promote the value of libraries and librarians in the 21st century.

Amnesty coming in April

Library will waive late fees in April 9th – April 30th
The Homer Township Public Library is celebrating National Library Week by declaring "Amnesty on Fines" from April 9
th to April 30
th, 2007. This means that any materials owned by the Homer Township Public Library that are overdue and returned will have their late fees up to $20.00 forgiven during these days. Amnesty does not apply to materials that have not been returned.
Circulation Supervisor Jody
Studer said, "Sometimes people feel embarrassed about having overdue items. Amnesty gives them an opportunity to return overdue items discreetly by dropping them into one of the library’s two books drops. Patrons can also return items to the circulation desk."
"Getting long overdue materials back is the most important part of the program," Jody said. "Having materials returned makes them available for other people and saves the library money by not having to replace materials."
For more information, visit the Homer Township Public Library at 14320 W. 151st Street, Homer Glen, Illinois, call 708-301-7908 or see the library's Web site
http://www.homerlibrary.org/. Libraries hours are Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Remember the bookdrops are open even when the library is closed.

Reading with Rex
Rex and his pals will be at the library on Sunday, April 15 from 4:30 to 6:30. Children are invited to join us in the library and read to a beautiful Therapy Dog. Reading to therapy dogs can provide a safe place for children to relax, forget about feeling self-conscious or nervous, forget about making mistakes or looking uncool and encourage some joy and pleasure in the moment of the experience, so they begin to look forward to reading. Sessions last typically 15-20 minutes. Books will be provided by the library or children may bring a favorite book from home that they think the dogs might enjoy.
For more information, contact Kitty at 708.301.7908.
