the following FREE programs:
Heads Up! Reading, a program focused on literacy and children.
Heads Up! Reading is a national, distance-learning course
that will teach participants the tools to enhance reading,
writing and thinking skills of young children.
* Heads Up! Reading will be held every Thursday evening*at the Homer Library and will run from
January 10, 2008 – May 29, 2008.
Participants have the opportunity to receive
CEUs, CPDUs, In-service hours, and/or college credit.

* Social and Emotional Learning on Monday, February 4th @ 7 pm *Parents and educators are invited to attend. This session explains social and emotional learning and its foundation for students’ lifelong success.
* Battling Body Images on Tuesday, June 10th @ 7 pm *
This program is a must attend for parents and educators! Learn about the body-image issues today’s youths are facing. Learn how to empower both male and female children/teens to build a healthier body image.
*Bullying Prevention on Tuesday, May 20th @ 7 pm*
What is bullying? How can bullying be managed? Parents, educators, and young adults
are encouraged to stand up and speak out against bullying!
These classes are provided by UIUC's extension center---

UBER COOL GINGERBREAD HOUSE
Monday, December 10th @ 7 p.m.
What a great opportunity to start a new holiday tradition with your child.
El Chef Michael Niksic will show you how easy it is
to create an "uber cool" gingerbread house.
He will have several samples on display including a
"Hanukkah" gingerbread house & a "Polynesian" gingerbread house.
Recipes, instructions and templates will be given to all participants, and
one lucky person will go home with the gingerbread house Chef Niksic builds!
Parents/Grandparents are encouraged to attend with your children for this FREE all ages program.
Seating is limited so call or come in soon to sign up!

"FOOD FOR FINES" at Homer Township Public Library

Pay off your library fines with food instead of cash!
Bring in 1 can of food and we’ll waive $1.00 of your library fines. That’s right!
One non-perishable food item = $1 off existing fines or returned overdues.
Only non-perishable, undamaged, unexpired, and labeled food items will be accepted.
Up to $20 in overdue fines will be waived for each donation from the following list of acceptable items:
(but additional donations are welcome)
8 oz. or more can of fruits or vegetables
6 oz. or more can of meat, fish, or poultry
10.5 oz or more can of soup (no packaged soup please)
1 box pasta, rice or dried beans
12 oz. or more box of cereal
8 oz. or more jar of peanut butter
Paying for replacement fees of LOST items is NOT included in this offer.
Offer valid only during the month of November.
Bring food to the Circulation Desk - All donated food will be given to local food banks for distribution.
