Teen Manga Group Meeting / Cosplay Party Photos!

Stop by the Homer Township Public Library on Thursday, January 24th at 7 pm to join the Teen Manga Group! Talk about your favorite manga with other teens and eat Japanese treats. Open to teens in 6th grade and up.

Energy 2008: A Teen Leadership Academy -- Now Accepting Applications!

Energy 2007 won two awards. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has recognized Energy in their Excellence in Library Service to Young Adults Recognition Project. The library will be awarded $250 and the program will be featured in the fifth edition of Excellence in Library Service to Young Adults. Youth Council of the Workforce Investment Board of Will County award Energy an Honorable Mention Certificate.


What is Energy?Energy is a teen leadership academy. The academy aims to help create youth leaders that will assume leadership roles throughout the community. More...


Why should you attend?Not only will you gain skills that can be utilized throughout life but you will have fun doing so! Participation in this academy will look impressive on college applications and resumes.


Energy is open to teens in grades 9-12. Applicants do not have to be residents of Homer Township. The deadline for applications is January 26, 2008, with the opening session to be held on February 6. For more information, contact Heather Colby at (708) 301-7908 or hcolby@homerlibrary.org.

Contest!

The Illinois State Library, Illinois State Archives, Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Center for the Book are co-sponsoring an essay contest!
"In November 1863, President Abraham Lincoln was invited to say “a few appropriate
remarks” to dedicate a cemetery in rural Pennsylvania, the final resting place for more
than 50,000 Americans who gave their lives during the Civil War. Facing a divided
nation, Lincoln expressed in less than 300 words that from this terrible sacrifice “this
nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the
people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Lincoln’s
Gettysburg Address became one of our nation’s most revered speeches.

Today, the nation is again divided and at war. Imagine yourself in Lincoln’s place. What
would you say to your fellow citizens to unite the country? In 300 words or less, tell
what your ideals are for a nation of freedom, democracy and equal opportunity."

Teen Manga Group's Holiday Cosplay Party!

Stop by the Homer Library on Thursday, December 20th at 7 p.m. for the Teen Manga Group's holiday cosplay party! Join us as we play manga pictionary and eat Japanese candy and snacks. Come dressed in your finest cosplay costume or manga-inspired outfit! Open to teens in 6th grade and up.
