Energy 2007 won two awards. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has recognized Energy in their Excellence in Library Service to Young Adults Recognition Project. The library will be awarded $250 and the program will be featured in the fifth edition of Excellence in Library Service to Young Adults. Youth Council of the Workforce Investment Board of Will County award Energy an Honorable Mention Certificate.
What is Energy? Energy is a teen leadership academy. The academy aims to help create youth leaders that will assume leadership roles throughout the community.
More...Why should you attend?Not only will you gain skills that can be utilized throughout life but you will have fun doing so! Participation in this academy will look impressive on college applications and resumes.
Energy is open to teens in grades 9-12. Applicants do not have to be residents of Homer Township. The deadline for applications has been extended to February 5, 2008 at 5 pm, with the opening session to be held at 7 pm on February 6 at the Woodbine Restaurant and Golf Course (located next door to the library). Gaming Open Session - January 31st - to be rescheduled.
Game night will be cancelled for tonight, January 31st , due to weather.
The library is holding an open session of Guitar Hero and DDR on Thursday, February 14th at 7 pm. We'll plan new gaming dates for March and April at the February 14th session.

Emerging Writers Competition
The annual Illinois Emerging Writers Competition was created by Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White to help develop new poets and short story writers. The competition is open to Illinois residents age 18 and older.

International Cheese Tasting

The Homer Township Public Library presents International Cheese Tasting with El Chef Michael Niksic! Come to the library on Tuesday, January 22nd at 7 pm to check out cheese -- domestic and imported, familiar and new. Their various serving styles, uses, storage, and handling will also be discussed. Featured cheeses will be sampled in various forms.

HeadsUp Reading! Sessions Cancelled.

Children's Culture Club

Travel to faraway lands. Explore foods and customs from other countries around the world. First stop: Africa! Each Culture Club member will be given a passport and a sticker from each country. Once completed, members will be world travelers!
Culture Club will meet one Saturday per month from January through April, with the first meeting on January 19th from 10 to 11:30 am. For children in grades 2-5. Registration required, as space is limited.

Knitting Club!

Attention knitters! The Homer Township Public Library is starting a monthly knitting club, meeting the third Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. Our first meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 15. All knitters are welcome, from beginners to experts!
Don't know how to knit? "Have Yarn, Will Travel" will teach beginners the basics on January 15th and February 19th. Beginners without supplies can purchase needles and yarn at the meeting from "Have Yarn, Will Travel" for $15.

January Computer Classes
Looking to sharpen your computer skills? The Homer Township Public Library is offering three computer classes during the month of January.
The first is an Introduction to Computers class (for those with very little or no experience with computers) on Friday, January 18 at 10 am (ending at 11 am).
The second is an Introduction to Word class (for those with very little or no experience with Word) on Wednesday, January 23 at 7 pm (ending between 8-8:30 pm).
The third is an
Introduction to Computers class (for those with very little or no experience with computers) on Friday, January 25 at 10 am (ending at 11 am).
