Energy: A Teen Leadership Academy -- Applications Still Being Accepted!

There is still time to apply for Energy 2008: A Teen Leadership Academy! Applications available here or at the library.

Energy 2007 won two awards. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has recognized Energy in their Excellence in Library Service to Young Adults Recognition Project. The library will be awarded $250 and the program will be featured in the fifth edition of Excellence in Library Service to Young Adults. Youth Council of the Workforce Investment Board of Will County award Energy an Honorable Mention Certificate.

What is Energy? Energy is a teen leadership academy. The academy aims to help create youth leaders that will assume leadership roles throughout the community. More...

Why should you attend?Not only will you gain skills that can be utilized throughout life but you will have fun doing so! Participation in this academy will look impressive on college applications and resumes.

Energy is open to teens in grades 9-12. Applicants do not have to be residents of Homer Township. The deadline for applications has been extended to February 5, 2008 at 5 pm, with the opening session to be held at 7 pm on February 6 at the Woodbine Restaurant and Golf Course (located next door to the library). Game Night -Jan. 31 - to be rescheduled

Game night will be cancelled for tonight, January 31st , due to weather.

The library is holding an open session of Guitar Hero and DDR on Thursday, February 14th at 7 pm. We'll plan new gaming dates for March and April at the February 14th session.

Need Hours for National Honor Society?

Are you a teen in National Honor Society looking for volunteer hours? Then join Energy 2008: A Teen Leadership Academy! Participants in Energy will volunteer 10 hours between August 4 - August 19 at the library's first used book sale! For more information on Energy, including how to apply, click here. Basic First Aid

Stop by the library on Saturday, January 26th at 1 pm to learn how to respond to first aid emergencies. This basic class is for adults and teens, and does not provide certification. Registration is required, as space is limited. To register, stop by the circulation desk or call (708) 301-7908.

Calling all gamers! The library is holding two open sessions of Guitar Hero and DDR! Stop by the library on Thursday, January 31 at 7 pm and Thursday, February 14 at 7 pm to get in on the action (sessions end at 8 pm). For teens in 6th grade and up!

Teen Book Discussion: Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones"

Got ideas on how to go GREEN?

Enter the Green Youth Awards Program
"In 2002, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency created the Green Youth Award. The Green Youth Award is an annual awards program that recognizes the outstanding and innovative efforts of youth in Illinois who are working on environmental and conservation friendly projects.
To be eligible for a Green Youth Award, projects must involve one or more of the following categories: waste reduction, prevention or reduction of pollution in the air (climate change/global warming), land or water restoration, preservation or enhancement of natural areas; and energy or water efficiency.
Individuals or youth currently enrolled in K-12 schools, scouts, 4-H or other groups, and who have participated in an environmental project started no earlier than January 2006, are eligible to apply.
