YAC meeting -- Wednesday, February 27th at 4:30 pm
Celebrate Chinese New Year with the other teens in the library's Youth Activity Committee!

**Yes, You Can! -- Wednesday, February 27th at 7 pm
Lloyd Bachrach was born with a congenital bone deficiency but, with hard work and determination, went on to become a champion athlete. Listen as Mr. Bachrach discusses how to set goals and stay motivated. Teens participating in ENERGY will receive credit for attending this program. Pizza will be served (thanks to Homer Glen's Great American Pizza!) at this event.

Chick Lit Book Discussion Group -- Wednesday, February 27th at 7 pm
Stop by the library to discuss Melissa Bank's "The Wonder Spot" and pick up the book for next month's discussion ("Something Borrowed" by Emily Giffin). The Chick Lit Book Discussion Group is fairly new and looking to expand -- new members are encouraged to attend!

Teen Manga Group -- Thursday, February 28th at 7 pm (NEW DATE! Rescheduled from February 21st)
Talk about your favorite manga with other teens and show us your best DDR dance moves! Open to teens in 6th grade and up.

**Stranger Danger -- Saturday, March 1st at 11 am
Children will learn how to identify and respond to dangerous situations involving strangers. For children in grades K - 2.

**Teach the Mind -- Sunday, March 2nd at 4:30 pm
Children will learn about values such as respect, responsibility, and pride through unique storytelling and skits. Fun for the whole family!

**Choices: Decision Making -- Monday, March 3rd at 7 pm
Some choices have more impact on our lives than others. Learn how you can make great choices for your life now and in the future. Teens participating in ENERGY will receive credit for attending this program.

Teen Book Discussion -- Tuesday, March 4th at 7 pm
Join us to discuss Garret Freymann-Weyr's "Stay With Me" and talk about the other books you've been reading. Open to teens in 6th grade and up. New members are welcome!

**Women's Personal Safety -- Tuesday, March 4th at 7 pm
Become more aware of criminal activity that may impact you, and learn strategies to lessen your potential of becoming a crime victim. For women ages 14 and up.

Senior Tax Help -- Wednesday, March 5th from 9 am -12 noon
Stop by the library for free tax help for seniors. Can't make it on March 5th? Senior tax days will also be held on March 19th and April 2nd.

**Out With the Bad, In With the Good -- Wednesday, March 5th at 7 pm
Eliminate the "negatives" in your life! Learn how to live without unnecessary stress and how to focus on the positive side of every situation.

**We Care: Child Awareness and Rapid Escape -- Saturday, March 8th at 10 am
Children will learn the skills they need to physically, mentally, and emotionally defend themselves in dangerous situations with strangers. For children ages 5 and up.

**Funding for this program is brought to you as part of a grant that was awarded to the Homer Township Public Library by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS),under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

Chocolate! Chocolate! -- Wednesday, February 20th at 7 pm (NEW DATE!)
Indulge in one of life's real treats as El Chef Michael Niksic discusses handling, storage, melting, and the uses and misuses of chocolate. There will be cocoa, suprise chocolate treats, recipes, and giveaways! This program is for adults and teens. Space is limited, so registration is required. To register, stop by the circulation desk or call (708) 301-7908.

ENERGY Opening Session -- Thursday, February 21st at 7 pm (NEW DATE!)
Calling all ENERGY teens! Don't miss the ENERGY opening session! The party will be held at Woodbine Restaurant and Golf Course, located next door to the library. Come prepared to eat delicious snacks & meet the other teens participating in ENERGY! This session is mandatory. If you cannot make it, please let Heather know ahead of time by contacting (708) 301-7908 or hcolby@homerlibrary.org.

**CPR Certification -- Saturday, February 23rd from 1-4 pm
This free American Heart Association CPR class will cover CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) training. Participants will receive a certification card at the completion of the class. Presented by Joan O'Malley from the American Heart Association. Registration for this class is full, but patrons are welcome to place their name on the waiting list. To do so, stop by the circulation desk or call (708) 301-7908.

**It's a Jungle Out There! -- Sunday, February 24th at 4:30 pm
Join Chris Buik on an imaginary safari adventure as we explore caves, scale trees, and swim oceans to discover animals you might think are a bit scary. Live animals are used to determine what is fact and what is fiction. Discover animals that frighten people, and take a look at health problems that should frighten people too...society's monsters like alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs to see just how dangerous they really are. This unique presentation thoughtfully combines issues of health and nature with an entertaining and meaningful messages.

Teen Techies -- Tuesday, February 26th at 7 pm
Learn how to use HTML with other teens! This meeting will be held in the library's computer lab. Space is limited, so registration is required. To register, stop by the circulation desk or call (708) 301-7908.

* Library Closed: Monday, February 18th

The library will be closed on Monday, February 18th in observance of Presidents Day. We will reopen on Tuesday at 8:30 am.

* Library Events: Feb. 13th -- Feb. 23rd

Prairiesmoke Writers Group -- Wednesday, February 13th at 7 pm
Stop by the monthly meeting of the library's writers group to discuss your work with other writers. New members are welcome!

Teen Gaming Night -- Thursday, February 14th at 7 pm
Calling all gamers! The library is holding an open session of Guitar Hero and DDR. Session ends at 8 pm. For teens in 6th grade and up!

Natural Wonders of Namibia -- Friday, February 15th at 11:30 am
Tour the apricot dunes of the Namibia desert, the fascinating landscape of Damaraland, and game drives in Etosha National Park. Presented by Jeff and Michelle Mishur of Art Excursions, Inc. Refreshments will be provided!

Culture Club: China -- Saturday, February 16th from 10 am - 11:30 am
Visit China and celebrate Chinese New Year! Enjoy a feast and make a traditional dragon that can dance! Open to children in grades 2-5. Space is limited, so registration is required. To register, visit the circulation desk or call (708) 301-7908.

Library Closed -- Monday, February 18th
Happy Presidents Day! The library will reopen Tuesday at 8:30 am.

Knitting Club -- Tuesday, February 19th at 7 pm
Attention knitters! The Homer Township Public Library is holding a monthly knitting club, meeting the third Tuesday of each month. All knitters are welcome, from beginners to experts. Don't know how to knit? "Have Yarn, Will Travel" will teach beginners the basics on February 19th. Beginners without supplies can purchase needles and yarn at the meeting from "Have Yarn, Will Travel" for $15.

Introduction to Computers Class -- Wednesday, February 20th from 2-3 pm
A computer class for those with very little or no experience with computers. The fee per class is $10.00 for Homer Township residents and $20.00 for non-residents. All fees are non-refundable. * Energy Opening Session Cancelled Due to Weather.

The Energy 2008:A Teen Leadership Academy opening session is cancelled for tonight, 2/6, due to tonight's expected weather conditions.

The event will be reschedule for a later date.

* Bookmobile Service cancelled Monday, Feb. 4


Bookmobile service for Monday, February 4, 2008 has been cancelled due to low visibility and fog. Service will resume as scheduled on Tuesday.

The Bookmobile will return to today's cancelled stops in four weeks as per the schedule.

* Get Started On Your ROOTS Contest Entry!

Are you or your child registered for the ROOTS Essay or Bookmark Contest, part of the library's Winter Reading Program and Character Counts Grant initiative? Then it's time to get started learning about your Irish, Polish, African, Chinese or other heritage!
