Haunted Illinois -- Monday, June 2nd at 7 pm
Be prepared to get spooked! You'll learn about the mysterious and ghostly history of Illinois, and discover the most haunted sites in our area. Presented by Troy Taylor, author of such books as Haunted Illinois and Weird Illinois.
A Child's Garden -- Thursday, June 5th at 7 pm
Studies show that children work better when exposed to nature. This parenting session will show parents appropriate garden activities for children.

**UPCOMING! Traces BUS-eum: Behind Barbed Wire -- Monday, June 9th from 8-11 am
Back due to popular demand! Visit this unique traveling museum and learn about the experiences of WWII POWs from the Midwest. Also at this event, David Molinari will be perfroming "Songs of World War II" and Ray Perisin (WWII POW survivor and Homer Glen resident) will display memorabilia and discuss his experiences.

Listen as Lee Murdock brings history to life as he tells the stories, in song, of the brave pioneering spirit of the people who settled the Great Lakes and the Midwest. A program for patrons of all ages!

For teens in 6th grade and up. New members are welcome!
YAC Meeting -- Wednesday, May 28th at 4:30 pm

**Financial Fitness for Life -- Wednesday, May 28th at 7 pm
Teens will learn how to make great long term decisions when it comes to earning, spending, saving, borrowing, investing, and managing money! Teens participating in Energy will receive credit for attending this program.

Join us to discuss Carol Plum Ucci's "The Night My Sister Went Missing" and talk about the other books you've been reading. Open to teens in 6th grade and up. New members are welcome!
UPCOMING! Summer Reading Program Kick-Off -- Monday, June 16th
The library's Summer Reading Program starts on June 16th! Stop by the library to meet Jammer, the mascot for the Joliet Jackhammers, from 11am - noon! Kids can also sign up to participate in "Are You Smarter Than a Librarian?" which runs in 30 minutes sessions from 1 -3 pm. For more information, contact Kitty Mitchell at (708) 301-7908.
Barnes & Noble Bookfair -- Saturday, June 14th from 9am - 11pm Visit any Barnes & Noble bookstore on Saturday, June 14th and you can support the Homer Library with your purchase! Present a voucher (available at the library, in the library's newsletter, or at the Orland Park Barnes & Noble) or simply mention the library at the register, and a percentage of the net sale will be donated to the library! We will be at the Orland Park Barnes & Noble hosting the following events that day:
9 am - 1 pm: Raffle! Winner drawn at 1 pm (winner does not need to be present).
10am - 1pm: Free gift wrapping with any purchase!
10am - 10:30am: "Toy Story" Performance by Homer Glen's Dance Studio
10am - noon: Learn to make origami
10am - 1:30pm: Drop in story hour for children
11am - noon: Watercolor demo with Cyn O'Brian of the Lemont Artist Guild
Noon - 2pm: Photographer Bill Uznanski of the Lemont Artist Guild presents "Creative Pictures: How to Capture an Excellent Pose"

Library Closed May 25th & 26th
In observance of Memorial Day, the library will be closed on Sunday, May 25th and Monday, May 26th. We will reopen Tuesday morning at 8:30 am.
Also, please note that the library is not open on Sundays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Quilt Raffle
The library is holding a quilt raffle! This twin sized, gorgeous quilt was specially made for the raffle and donated by Kara of Kara's Quilt Design. It is available for viewing at the circulation desk. Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20 (proceeds to benefit the Homer Library). The winner will be notified the week of June 20th, and does not need to be present to win. Good luck!
Used Book Sale -- Now Accepting Donations
The library is now accepting book donations for our first ever Used Book Sale, to be held on August 15th and 16th! If you have gently used books that you would like to donate to this event, please drop them off at the library during open hours. We are accepting all donations except National Geographic magazine, encyclopedias published before 2003, and items in poor condition. Thank you for your help in making this event a success!
Book Discussion Groups
Looking to join a book discussion group? The Homer Library offers 4 monthly book discussion groups and new members are always welcome! Stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book, and then join us for some lively conversation and good times!
+ Teen Book Discussion (meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm). For June: "The Night My Sister Went Missing" by Carol Plum-Ucci.
+ Mystery Book Discussion (meets the second Monday of the month at 7 pm). For June: "What the Dead Know" by Laura Lippman.
+ Adult Book Discussion (meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm). For May: "The Brief History of the Dead" by Kevin Brockmeier. For June: "The Giant's House" by Elizabeth McCracken.

Voter RegistrationDid you know that you can register to vote at the library? Just bring two forms of valid identification (at least one proving legal residence in the Will County). Please call ahead (708-301-7908) to make sure that a registrar is in the building. You can also register to vote using a mail in form found on the Will County Clerk's website. Your adventure to Zambia will include an elephant-back safari, Zambezi river rafting, and game drives. Presented by Jeff and Michelle Mishur of Art Excursions.

Stop by the Teen Manga Group to talk about your favorite manga with other teens! Also, learn how to post manga reviews on the library's website and hear details about the group's first art and fanfiction contest! Open to teens in 6th grade and up.
**Teen Teambuilding Challenge -- Saturday, May 17th from 9-11 am or 11-1 pm
Join us for a series of fun teambuilding challenges with other teens! We'll be doing a series of activities that require teamwork, trust, communication, and problem-solving skills (kind of like the TV show Survivor, without being stuck on an island). This event will be held outdoors (weather permitting) so please dress appropriately! Also, because of the physical nature of this event, a parent or guardian must sign liability waivers (available at the library) in order to participate. Space is limited, and registration is required. Open to teens in 6th grade and up. Teens participating in Energy will receive credit for attending this event. The Homer Township Public Library was awarded a "We the People" Bookshelf Grant! Children are encouraged to check out books from the library's "We the People" shelf, located in the children's room. This grant was made possible by the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Presenter Alison Smith will discuss the transition between home and preschool. Key components include cognitive skills, self-help, social-emotional, gross and fine motor skills, and speech and language development. Parents will learn simple activities to strengthen areas of concern. A take home packet will be provided.
