ADULTS & SENIORS

Chick Lit Book Discussion -- Tuesday, February 24th at 7pm
Join us as we discuss My Best Friend's Girl by Dorothy Koomson. New members are welcome!

College Planning Workshop -- Thursday, February 26th at 7pm
College Funding Strategies will host a free college planning workshop for parents of high school students. This session concentrates on helping your high schooler pick the right college while causing the least impact to your family's finances.

Senior Tax Assistance -- Wednesday, March 4th from 9am-12pm
The Senior Services Center of Will County will be providing free tax services at the library. Walk-in basis only, with no appointment necessary. Can't make it? Tax Assistance days will also be held on March 11th, 18th, 25th, April 1st, and 15th.

JJC Career Services Workshop -- Thursday, March 5th at 3pm
Looking for some job hunting advice? Representatives from Joliet Junior College's Career Services will offer advice and answer questions regarding job searching.

TEENS

YAC Meeting -- Wednesday, February 25th at 4:30pm
We'll be discussing an exciting YAC community project that we are planning, and we'll also spend some time gaming! Come ready to play Rock Band and Wii! Open to teens in 6th grade and up!

Teen Book Discussion -- Tuesday, March 3rd at 7pm
We'll be discussing The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson and talking about any other books that we've been reading! Copies of the book are available at the library for check out. Open to teens in 6th grade and up, and new members are welcome!

Teen Techies -- Wednesday, March 4th at 7pm
Discuss the latest trends in technology with other teens! Open to teens in 6th grade and up.

KIDS

Lego Time -- Tuesday, February 24th from 4:30 - 5:30pm
Build you own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided by the library.

Culture Club: India -- Saturday, February 28th from 10 - 11am
Travel to faraway lands and explore foods and customs from other countries around the world! First stop: India! For children in grades 2-5. Registration required.

* Library Closed / No Bookmobile Service: Monday, Feb. 16th

The library will be closed on Monday, February 16th in observance of Presidents day. Bookmobile service will also be suspended for the day. We will reopen on Tuesday morning at 8:30 am.

When the library is closed, you can still:
+ chat online with a librarian through our ASKAWAY service
+ use our library databases
+ search our catalog.

Mystery Book Club -- Monday, February 9th at 7pm
Start the new year with a good mystery! We'll be discussing In the Bleak Midwinter by Julia Spencer-Fleming. New members are welcome!

The House Stager -- Tuesday, February 10th at 7pm
Get professional insight along with tricks of the trade on how to prepare your home for sale and create the perfect package to get maximum financial return.

Prairiesmoke Writers Workshop -- Wednesday, February 11th at 7pm
February marks the beginning of the library's restructured writers group! The Prairiesmoke Writers Group will now be writing workshops led by different published authors. Travis Thrasher, author of such books as Isolation and Out of the Devil's Mouth, will be leading the group on Wednesday, February 11th and Wednesday, March 11th (both sessions begin at 7pm). Travis will share his writing tips and techniques and then answer any questions the group may have. Attendees are then encouraged to share their own work with the group! Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required. We hope to see you there!

Armchair Travelers: London and Paris -- Friday, February 13th from 1:30 - 3pm
Sonia Lawrentz will take you on a tour of London and Paris. Visit landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and Tower of London, then cross the Channel to view the beauty of Paris. Light refreshments will be served.

Knitting Group -- Tuesday, February 17th at 7pm
Bring your yarns and needles and join the library's monthly knitting club! Meet other knitters and view each other's projects. The group meets on the third Tuesday of every month.

Mardi Gras with Chef Niksic -- Tuesday, February 17th at 7pm
Get ready for Mardi Gras with this fun, food-filled program with Chef Michael Niksic! Attendees will taste Jambalaya, Cajun rice and black beans. To register for this free program, call (708) 301-7908.

Teen Manga Group: Naruto Night -- Thursday, February 19th at 7pm
Calling all Naruto fans! The next meeting of the Teen Manga Group is Naruto Night! Join us on Thursday, February 19th at 7pm for Naruto trivia, prizes, snacks, & more! Naruto cosplay is encouraged! Open to teens in 6th grade and up.


Winter Reading Program: Read to Succeed
Kids in grades pre-K to 8th grade are invited to join the library's Winter Reading Program for a chance to win Chicago Wolves tickets and gift baskets! The program takes place during the month of February only. To sign up, visit the circulation desk!


Computer Classes: Microsoft Office 2007
Introductory classes on Microsoft Office 2007 will soon be offered at the Homer Library! Patrons will learn the basics of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint in one informative session. Classes will be held on laptops (provided by the library) in the library's meeting room. Drinks and food are not allowed. Class size is limited to 5 participants. Registration for each month's class begins on the first day of that month (for example, registration for classes held in March opens on March 1st). Classes are free. The schedule is as follows:

Basics of Microsoft Office Word 2007
March 15 at 6:30pm
March 26th at 6:30pm
March 30th at 6:30pm
April 5th at 6:30pm

Basics of Microsoft Office Excel 2007
April 20 at 6:30pm
April 23rd at 6:30pm

May 16th at 9am

June 1st at 6:30pm

Funding for this program is brought to you as part of a grant that was awarded to the Homer Township Public Library by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

TumbleReadables: Your Online Read-Along Collection
Did you know that you can access read-along books for free from home? The Homer Library offers TumbleReadables, a collection of new and classic books for readers in preschool through high school. Read-along books are great for emergent, struggling, and reluctant readers, and are an excellent tool for ESL students. To access the collection, go to http://www.homerlibrary.org/findit.asp and click on the TumbleReadables link in the bottom right corner of the chart. Have any questions about TumbleReadables?
