Senior Tax Assistance -- Wednesday, April 1st from 9am-12pm
The Senior Services Center of Will County will be providing free tax services at the library. Walk-in basis only, with no appointment necessary (first come, first served). Can't make it? The final Tax Assistance day will also be held on April 15th.

Timeless Brunch Recipes -- Tuesday, March 31st at 7pm
Chef Michael Niksic will share his recipes for banana battered french toast, black bean salsa, and sun dried tomato chive hollandaise. Participants will get to sample each food! Registration is required.

Learn how to recycle your old bottle caps and make a piece of art! All supplies are provided. Open to teens and adults.

Prairiesmoke Writers Group -- Wednesday, April 8th at 7pm
We need your input! Join us as we discuss ideas for future meetings. Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend.

Friends of the Library Meeting -- Thursday, April 9th at 7pm
All Friends of the Library (or those interested in becoming a Friend!) are invited to the monthly Friends meeting at the library. We'll be discussing future projects and fundraising ideas, and we'd love to hear your input!

TEENS

Altered Bottle Caps -- Monday, April 6th at 7pm
Learn how to recycle your old bottle caps and make a piece of art! All supplies are provided. Open to teens and adults.

Teen Book Discussion -- Tuesday, April 7th at 7pm
Join us as we discuss Devilish by Maureen Johnson. Books are available at the library for check out! Open to teens in 6th grade and up.

KIDS

Lego Time -- Tuesday, March 31st from 4:30 - 5:30pm
Build your own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided.

Jean Drive
Bring in your gently used jeans during the months of April and May! All sizes are accepted (jeans only, please). Jeans will be donated to the Daybreak Shelter in Joliet. The Jean Drive is sponsored by the Homer Library's Youth Activity Committee. Thank you for your support!

Library Closed: Friday, April 3rd, Friday, April 10th, and Sunday, April 12th
The library will be closed on Friday, March 3rd for a staff in-service day. We will re-open on Saturday at 8:30am.

The library will also be closed on Friday, April 10th in observance of Good Friday and Sunday, April 12th in observance of Easter.

When the library is closed, you can still:
+ chat online with a librarian through our ASKAWAY service
+ use our library databases
+ search our catalog.

Chick Lit Book Discussion -- Tuesday, March 24th at 7pm
Stop by to discuss Don't You Forget About Me by Jancee Dunn. Books are available at the library for check out. New members are welcome!

QuickBooks Lecture -- Wednesday, March 25th at 7pm
This seminar will teach the small business owner how to set up their company books on the computer using the accounting package QuickBooks. Topics covered will include how to set up a company file and an industry specific chart of accounts, along with the basics of how to perform accounts receivable and accounts payable functions within QuickBooks. Additional topics that will be covered include bank reconciliations and how to backup and store your data.

Jan's Clan Puppet Show -- Wednesday, March 25th at 10:30am at Hadley School
Let's rock and roll at Jan Clan's Puppet Show! This musical variety show is filled with an amazing assortment of 8 different characters performing popular songs! This event is being held at Hadley School, and admission is free. Registration is not required, so bring the whole family!

Lego Time -- Tuesday, March 31st from 4:30 - 5:30pm
Build your own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided.

* Computer Classes: Microsoft Office 2007

Introductory classes on Microsoft Office 2007 will soon be offered at the Homer Library! Patrons will learn the basics of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint in one informative session. Classes will be held on laptops (provided by the library) in the library's meeting room. Drinks and food are not allowed. Class size is limited to 5 participants. Registration for each month's class begins on the first day of that month (for example, registration for classes held in March opens on March 1st). Classes are free. The schedule is as follows (please note the revised dates):

German POW 'Held in the Heartland' Bus-eum -- Tuesday, March 10th from 5-8pm
Visit the Held in the Heartland Bus-eum, a 40-foot school bus converted into a mobile museum/classroom, to reflect on the experiences of German POWs in the Midwest during 1943-46. The unique exhibit consists of photographs and documents, DVD documentaries, artifacts, and more. Patrons can visit the Bus-eum any time between 5 and 8pm.

Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.

Knitting Group -- Tuesday, March 17th at 7pm
Bring your yarns and needles and join the library's monthly knitting club! Meet other knitters and view each other's projects. The group meets on the third Tuesday of every month.

10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent!
The Homer Library is proud to announce our new online program -- 10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent! This program is a FREE online course for parents, adults, and other patrons interested in learning more about popular websites and Web 2.0 tools. This course will cover introductions to the various websites and tools, discuss how these websites and tools would be useful for both adults and children, and also promote Internet safety. Participants can read articles and watch tutorial videos on tools such as online communities, blogs, RSS aggregators, video sharing and more! 10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent is hosted on Learnhub's website, a social networking site for teaching and learning.
