This program, which begins at 6:30pm, covers all of the tools in a job hunter's kit from resumes and cover letters to negotiating compensation. Wendy Lalli, a former recruiter, career columnist for the Daily Southtown and current career coach, tells job searchers how they can direct their job efforts to get a position that not only fits their skills and experience, but also matches their personal goals and lifestyles.
Preventing Bridezilla -- Monday, June 29th at 7pm
Attention brides! Learn tips to avoid stress during wedding planning, secrets that brides should know, and other wedding planning ideas. Presenter Linda Zec is a wedding professional with over 20 years of experience in the wedding business.
YAC Meeting -- Wednesday, June 24th at 4:30pm
The next meeting of the library's Youth Activity Committee is on June 24th! YAC members volunteer for events in the library and the larger community and have fun while doing so! It's a friendly group, and new members (in grade 6-8 as of Fall 2009) are always welcome. Members will receive volunteer hours for attending YAC meetings.
Teen Advisory Board Meeting -- Thursday, June 25th at 7pm
Teens in 9-12 grades are invited to join the library's new Teen Advisory Board! Members will have the opportunity to influence the Homer Library's teen services. TAB will meet once a month to discuss books, programming, and other library topics. Members will receive volunteer hours for attending TAB meetings. Summer TAB meetings will be held on Thursday, June 25th at 7pm and Thursday, July 23rd at 7pm. Interested in attending? Email Heather at

Chocolate Fever -- Tuesday, June 23rd from 10:30am to Noon
Discover how "sweet" the library can be! Read chocolate themed books, play chocolate games, and make a chocolate craft. This program is for kids ages 8-12. Registration is required; to register, call (708) 301-7908.
Babysitting Class -- Saturday, June 27th from 9-12am
Learn basic first aid, how to plan and preepare for babysitting jobs, change diapers and much more! For kids ages 10 and up. Registration at the circulation desk is required as space is limited, and there is a $20 fee per participant. Can't make this babysitting class? There is another one scheduled for July 18th.
Are You Smarter Than a Librarian? -- Thursday, June 25th from 1:30-3pm
Drop in at this awesome summer program! Kids ages 5-11 are invited to test their knowledge against some of their favorite Homer librarians! We'll also be doing activities like the limbo, musical chairs, hula hooping, and more. Registration is not required.
What is Grossology? -- Thursday, June 25th from 6-7:30pm
Grossology is the science of all things gross and vile! We'll talk about things that you're not allowed to talk about. Here is your chance! Warning: not for weak stomachs! This program is based on the Grossology books by Sylvia Branzei-Velasquez. For kids ages 8-12. Registration is required; to register, call (708) 301-7908.
Lego Time -- Tuesday, June 30th at 4:30pm
Build your own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided.
Thursday Morning Family Movie -- Thursday, July 2nd at 10am

Fundraiser at Cold Stone Creamery
Looking for a way to celebrate the arrival of summer and benefit your local library at the same time? The Homer Township Public Library District is pairing up with Cold Stone Creamery for a fundraiser of yummy proportions! Grab a voucher, available at the Homer Library and by clicking
here, and head on down to the Lockport location of Cold Stone Creamery (16527 W. 159th Street) on June 23, 24, and 25. Celebrity scoopers will be there to serve you from 4-7pm, and if you use a voucher at any time during business hours, the library will receive a portion of your purchase! All vouchers received on these days will be entered into a raffle in which customers can win a free Cold Stone cake or a $15 Cold Stone gift card. Vouchers are valid at the Lockport Cold Stone Creamery only. For extra fun, visit the Homer Library's Bookmobile, which will be at Cold Stone on Thursday, June 25 from 4-7pm. Library Closed: July 4th
In observance of the 4th of July, the library will be closed on Saturday, July 4th. We will reopen Monday morning at 8:30 am.

MORE INFOOur DVD Collection Is Here!Patrons can now check out DVDs at the Homer Library! Look for our DVD collection in the front of the library in the new arrivals section. There is a limit of 5 DVDs per person, and the check out period is one week. There are no holds or renewals on DVDs owned by the Homer Library, and there is a late fee of $1 per day per DVD. We hope you enjoy our newest collection!
Summer Reading Program Kick-Off & Program Registration
The library's Summer Reading Program starts on June 15th! June 15th also marks the first day of registration for any summer programs. Also, the Bookmobile's Summer Reading Club runs from June 8th - July 29th, when readers will have the chance to win fun prizes! We hope to see you at the library or on the bookmobile this summer!

The library's Summer Reading Program starts on June 15th! Stop by the library to meet Boomer, the mascot for the Windy City Thunderbolts, beginning at 9:30am. June 15th also marks the first day of registration for any summer programs. In-person registration begins at 8:30am, and telephone registration begins at 12pm. Also, the Bookmobile's Summer Reading Club runs from June 8th - July 29th, when readers will have the chance to win fun prizes! We hope to see you at the library or on the bookmobile this summer!
Brookfield Zoo Passes for Homer Library Patrons
Did you know that the Homer Library offers free Brookfield Zoo passes for check out? It's true! Zoo passes are given on a first come, first served basis, and cannot be reserved. We recommend you call the library to see if a pass is available (at 708-301-7908), as we have only 4 passes and they are in high demand during the summer months. Only Homer Library patrons ages 18 or older can check them out. With each pass, up to 8 people are entitled to a free general admission to Brookfield Zoo and the Hamill Family Play Zoo (this also includes free parking for up to 2 vehicles). Passes can be checked out for 3 days. An overdue fine of $5.00 per day will be charged to your account if it is returned late. When returning the zoo passes, please do not return them in the book drop. We hope you enjoy your time at the Brookfield Zoo!

Jean Drive: An Update!
We are happy to announce the the library's Jean Drive was a great success! Library patrons and staff donated a total of 140 pairs of jeans, all of which will be given to an area shelter. Thank you to those who donated items, and to the library's Youth Activity Committee for sponsoring the event and boxing up all of the donations! Your kindness is appreciated.

Broadway in Chicago has generously donated 4 tickets to the Homer Township Public Library for the Thursday, June 25th performance of Mary Poppins! The show, which begins at 8pm, is being performed at the Cadillac Palace Theater (151 W. Randolph St., Chicago). Patrons are invited to come into the library and fill out a free raffle ticket for a chance to win!

More InfoBasics of Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 -- Wednesday, June 3rd at 6:30pm
A basics of Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 class will be held on at June 3rd at 6:30pm. The class will be held on laptops (provided by the library) in the library's meeting room. Drinks and food are not allowed. Class size is limited to 5 participants. The class is free, but space is limited and registration is required. Funding for this program is brought to you as part of a grant that was awarded to the Homer Township Public Library by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
