Chick Lit Book Discussion -- Tuesday, November 24th at 7pm
Join us as we discuss The Penny Pinchers Club by Sarah Strohmeyer! We will be taking a break from our monthly discussions for December, but we will be back in January. We hope you'll join us in November and again in the new year! Copies of January's book will be available at the library in mid-December.


Teen Book Discussion -- Tuesday, December 1st at 7pm
We'll be discussing Skinned by Robin Wasserman and talking about any other books we've read in the past month! For teens in 6th grade and up. New members are welcome!

Teen Movie Night -- Thursday, December 3rd at 7pm
Grab your friends and head over to the library for Teen Movie Night! We'll supply the popcorn and drinks. For teens in 6th grade and up. For more information, including the movie title and length, please call (708) 301-7908 or email Heather at hcolby@homerlibrary.org.


Lego Time -- Tuesday, November 24th at 4:30pm
Build your own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided.

Bookmobile Holiday Contest -- Nov. 30th -- Dec. 12th
Guess the number of sweets in the Bookmobile's holiday jar! The person with the closest number without going over will be the winner!

November is Food For Fines Month!
From November 1st to 30th, Homer Library patrons can pay off library fines with food instead of cash! Bring in one non-perishable food item and we'll waive $1 off existing fines or returned overdues. Paying for late fees for InterLibrary Loan items and replacement fees of lost items is not included in this offer. Up to $20 in overdue fines will be waived for each donation from the following list of acceptable items:

+ 8 oz. or more can of fruits or vegetables+ 6 oz. or more can of meat, fish, or poultry
+ 10.5 oz or more can of soup (no packaged soup or ramen, please)
+ 1 box pasta, rice, or dried beans
+ 12 oz. or more box of cereal
+ 8 oz. or more jar of peanut butter

Offer valid only during the month of November. Only non-perishable, undamaged, unexpired, and labeled items will be accepted. Additional donations are welcome. All donated food will be given to local food banks for distribution. Thank you for your support!

Community Christmas Party
Please join us on Saturday, December 12th from 10am - noon for a Community Christmas Party, held in partnership with the Homer Township Chamber of Commerce! There will be childrens activities, refreshments, and even a visit with Santa (don't forget your camera!). The party will be held at the Homer Library, so we hope to see you and your family there!

Citizens Utility Board Phone Bill Clinic -- Monday, November 16th at 7pm
Interested in saving money on your phone bill? CUB will show patrons how to save money by cutting out unused or unneeded telephone services. Patrons are encouraged to bring a recent phone bill.

Adult Book Discussion -- Wednesday, November 18th at 7:30pm
We'll be discussing Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult at November's meeting. This will be our last meeting of 2009, as we won't be meeting in December, but we look forward to more great discussions in 2010! Copies of January's book will be available at the library in mid-December.

The next YAC meeting is almost here! YAC members volunteer for events in the library and the larger community and have fun while doing so. It's a friendly group, and new members (in grade 5-8) are always welcome. Members will receive volunteer hours for attending YAC meetings.

Love manga and anime? Join us as we plan for next month's cosplay party (to be held on Thursday, December 10th) and talk about any great manga we've recently read! For teens in 6th grade and up.


Starlight Story Time -- Monday, November 16th at 6:30pm
Enjoy a "starry" story, craft and a snack! For kids ages 4 - 7 only. Space is limited and registration is required.

Thanksgiving Craft -- Tuesday, November 17th at 4:30pm
Celebrate Thanksgiving with a kids craft! There is a $3 fee per child, and kids younger than 6 will need assistance from their parent or guardian. Space is limited and registration is required. To register, call (708) 301-7908.

Mystery Book Club -- Monday, November 9th at 7pm
Join us for a lively discussion of The Shiloh Sisters by Michael Kilian. The Mystery Book Club meets the second Monday of each month, and books are available at the library for check out. New mystery-loving members are welcome!

Armchair Travelers -- Friday, November 13th at 1:30pm
Join George J. Reuss as he travels through historic and scenic Illinois. Learn the history of Illinois by visiting its historic buildings, scenic rural landscapes, modern sculptures, and more! Light refreshments will be served.

Teen Drop-In Craft: Paper Bead Jewelry -- Tuesday, November 10th from 4-5:30pm
Teens in 6th grade and up are invited to drop in anytime between 4 and 5:30 to take part in the paper bead jewelry craft! Teens can makes their own beaded jewelry with paper, magazines, and/or newspapers.

Teen Advisory Board -- Thursday, November 12th at 7pm
Help the library plan upcoming library events for other teens! The Teen Advisory Board is open to high school students, and service hours are given for attending each meeting.

International Cheese
As a reminder, the International Cheese program was rescheduled from November 17th to November 2nd due to the a scheduling conflict. We hope that you were able to make it to the program to enjoy El Chef Michael Niksic's delicious food! Our next program with Chef Niksic will be held on Tuesday, December 8th -- Jellies and Jams! Carson's Community Day
Carson's Community Day is almost here! The Homer Library is holding a fundraiser in conjunction with Carson Pirie Scott! Patrons can purchase a $5 Carson's coupon book to receive one $10 off coupon good on almost any merchandise item, eight Carson's store coupons for 20-30% off, and five exclusive Bonus Buy merchandise offers! Coupons and offers can be used to shop Carson's Community Day on Saturday, November 14th. Booklets are available for purchase at the library's circulation desk for only $5, and 100% of that donation goes to the Homer Library!

International Cheese -- Monday, November 2nd at 7pm (please note new date!)
El Chef Michael Niksic will introduce you to domestic & imported, familiar & new cheese types. The various serving styles, uses, storage, and handling will be discussed, with a tasting to follow. Registration required.

"Donate 1 DVD" Drive
As you have hopefully seen, the library's DVD collection, which was established in June, is steadily growing. With DVDs for every age group, the collection had been extremely popular! We are looking to expand the collection with the help of generous patrons like you! Do you have one (new or gently used) DVD to donate? Bring it in! We are currently accepting donations of all types of DVDs, from childrens movies to documentaries. With just a small donation of one DVD, you can help the Homer Library reach our goal of 100 DVD donations for the month of November! Thank you for your support!
