Senior Tax Assistance -- Wednesday, February 3rd from 9am-noon
The AARP and the Senior Services Center of Will County will be providing free tax services at the Homer Library. Please bring the following items: photo ID, proof of social security number & dependent, all income statements, all deductions to be claimed, last years federal and state returns, and your property pin number. First come, first served, on a walk-in basis only. Can't make it? Tax Assistance days will also be held on February 17th, March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, April 7th, and 14th.
Teen Craft -- Tuesday, January 26th at 4:30pm
Get crafty at the library as we make our own jewelry! For teens in 6th grade and up.
YAC Meeting -- Wednesday, January 27th at 4:30pm
We are having our own Mardi Gras celebration at this month's Youth Activity Committee meeting, so stop by to make colorful masks and hang out with new friends! For teens in grades 5-8. New members are welcome!
Teen Book Discussion -- Tuesday, February 2nd at 7pm
Join us as we talk about Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz. It's already one of our group member's favorite books, and now we want to to know what you thought of it! For teens in 6th grade and up.
Make a Flake on the Bookmobile
Who doesn't love snowflakes? Stop by the bookmobile between January 19-30 to make a snowflake craft and pick up activity sheets to take home!
Lego Time -- Tuesday, January 26th at 4:30pm
Build your own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided.
Social Skills for Kids -- Monday, February 1st at 7pm
Does your child struggle with making or keeping friends or getting along with others? Attend this program taught by Erica Barrett, certified school psychologist, and learn how to improve your child's social skills. Register at (708) 301-7908.
Valentine's Day Craft -- Wednesday, February 3rd at 4:30
Celebrate Valentine's Day with a craft made with love! Children 6 and younger require parent or guardian assistance. The fee is $3 per child. To register, please visit the circulation desk.
Nutrition for Kids -- Thursday, February 4th at 7pm
Looking for new ways to prepare delicious meals for your children that are actually good for them? Tracey Cicirale will present a program on how to prepare school lunches packed with nutrition. Register at (708) 301-7908.
Letters to the Troops
Throughout the month of February, the library is collecting letters to send to American troops stationed overseas. Blank forms (for children to use and decorate) are available at the library, although adults are welcome to write letters using their own stationary as well. Taking a few minutes to write a letter can make someone's day a bit brighter! Thank you for participating in this project and supporting our troops.
Energy 2010: A Teen Leadership Academy
Applications are now available for the 2010 session of Energy: A Teen Leadership Academy! Interested teens can pick one up at the library or print one out from home by clicking
here. This award-winning academy aims to help create youth leaders who will assume leadership roles throughout the community. Teens will commit to attending three library programs (on topics such as college preparation and communication skills) and fulfill a service requirement at the library. Participation in this academy will look impressive on college applications and resumes, and it's also fun! Energy is open to teens in grades 9-12. Applicants do not have to be residents of Homer Township. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2009.
Career Assistance Workshop
The library will be holding a Career Assistance Workshop on Saturday, February 20, 2010. The event, which features multiple speakers, will cover topics such as interview and resume preparation, networking skills, government employment opportunities, and job searching. This is an ideal program for those who are unemployed or are interested in transitioning to a new career. Attendees do not have to be residents of Homer Township. The workshop is from 9am - 1pm and light refreshments will be served. To register, call the library at (708) 301-7908.

The library will be closed on Monday, January 18th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. day. Bookmobile service will also be suspended for the day. We will reopen on Tuesday morning at 8:30 am.
When the library is closed, you can still:

library databases+ search our
catalog.
And as a reminder, program registration begins on Tuesday, January 19th. In-person registration for all programs starts at 8:30 am, and telephone registration begins at noon on that same day. We have a lot of excellent programs scheduled for the spring (click
