Chick Lit Discussion Group -- Tuesday, February 23rd at 7pm
Join us as we discuss The Pretend Wife by Bridget Asher. New members are welcome and books are available at the library for check out.

Shop Smart to Make More with Less -- Monday, March 1st at 7pm
Learn how to make many more meals with fewer trips to the store. Buy one grocery bag of ingredients and transform this into 3 large dishes. The program is based on the presenter’s “70 Meals, One Trip to the Store” cookbook. Registration is required.

Senior Tax Assistance -- Wednesday, March 3rd from 9am-noon
The AARP and the Senior Services Center of Will County will be providing free tax services at the Homer Library. Please bring the following items: photo ID, proof of social security number & dependent, all income statements, all deductions to be claimed, last years federal and state returns, and your property pin number. First come, first served, on a walk-in basis only. Can't make it? Tax Assistance days will also be held on March 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, April 7th, and 14th.

Youth Activity Committee Meeting -- Wednesday, February 24th at 4:30pm
Join us as we celebrate Chinese New Year with yummy chinese food and fun! For teens in grades 5-8

College Application Workshop -- Wednesday, February 24th at 7pm
This 1 hour program is designed to show students what college admissions officers want to see in a personal essay. The workshop will examine the types of topics students will encounter, cover the four steps to writing a winning essay, and critique a sample admissions essay. Sponsored by Kaplan.

Teen Book Club -- Tuesday, March 2nd at 7pm
Join us to discuss Same Difference by Siobhan Vivian! We want to hear what you thought! For teens in 6th grade and up.

KIDS

Lego Time -- Tuesday, February 23rd at 4:30pm
Build your own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided.

Spuds! Spuds! Spuds! -- Saturday, February 27th at 10:30am
Celebrate National Potato Chip Day and learn all about the history of this versatile vegetable! Potato chip tasting, a story, and games await! For kids ages 7-10. Space is limited, so registration is required. To register, call (708) 301-7908.

Read With Rex -- Sunday, February 28th from 4:30-6pm
Children of all ages are invited to read to our gentle and well trained dogs. Each reading session is limited to 15 minutes. Space is limited, so registration is required. To register, call (708) 301-7908.

Animals in Winter -- Monday, March 1st at 10:30am
Learn facts and fun stories of how animals survive in winter and who migrates, hibernates, or stays active. Visit with live animals! Space is limited, so registration is required.To register, call (708) 301-7908.

St. Patrick's Day Craft -- Tuesday, March 2nd at 4:30pm
Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a leprechaun craft! There is a $3 fee per child. Children ages 6 and under require adult help. To register, visit the circulation desk.

Teddy Bear Picnic -- Friday, March 5th at 10:30am or 1:30pm
Bring your favorite stuffed animal to the library for stories, snacks, and a craft. For kids ages 3 - 6. Space is limited, so registration is required. To register, call (708) 301-7908.

Don't forget to log the last of your reading for both the Bookmobile's and the main library's Winter Reading Programs! The Bookmobile's WRP ends on February 27th and the main library's WRP ends on February 28th. Don't miss out on your final chance to win some awesome prizes!

College Planning Workshop -- Tuesday, February 16th at 7pm
College Funding Strategies will host a free college planning workshop for parents of high school students who are looking at increasing college tuition. This session concentrates on helping your high school student pick the right college while causing the least impact on your family's finances. Registration is required.

This event, which features multiple speakers, will cover topics such as interview and resume preparation, networking skills, government employment opportunities, and job searching. This is an ideal program for those who are unemployed or are interested in transitioning to a new career. Attendees do not have to be residents of Homer Township. The workshop is from 9am - 1pm and light refreshments will be served. To register, call the library at (708) 301-7908.

Crazy About Cakes Program Rescheduled
Due to last week's inclement weather, the Crazy About Cakes program was postponed. We've rescheduled the program for Tuesday, March 16th at 7pm. In this hour long program, audience members will learn about the history of special cakes including red velvet, carrot cake, brand name favorites, and styles of wedding cake. Energy: A Teen Leadership Academy
Today (Feb. 16th) is the last day to get your Energy application into the library! To download an application from home, click here. Teens who applied will receive an email by the end of today that explains more about the program. Prairiesmoke Writers Group -- Wednesday, February 10th at 7pm
Stop by the monthly meeting of the library's writers group! You're invited to discuss your work with other writers and have fun with some group writing assignments. New members are welcome! Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.

Armchair Travelers: Switzerland -- Friday, February 12th at 1:30pm
Sonia Lawrentz will lead you through the streets of Switzerland, where you'll visit Geneva, the Rhone Valley, Montreux, the Jungfrau Mountains, and more. Light refreshments will be served.

We'll be discussing the latest trends in technology and planning ideas for future meetings. Open to teens in 6th grade and up. New members are welcome!

Teen Advisory Board Meeting -- Thursday, February 11th at 7pm
Share your input on upcoming projects and programs, and have some fun while doing so! Members will receive volunteer hours for attending TAB meetings (you'll get snacks, too!). For teens in 6th grade and up.

Teen Craft: Mardi Gras -- February 16th at 4:30pm
Celebrate Mardi Gras with a teen craft! For teens in 6th grade and up.

Energy: A Teen Leadership Academy; Application Deadline Approaching!
More programs are being added to the schedule for this year's session of Energy: A Teen Leadership Academy! We are excited to have additional programs for Energy teens to attend and we'll be announcing them soon. To apply for Energy, interested teens can pick one up at the library or print one out from home by clicking here. This award-winning academy aims to help create youth leaders who will assume leadership roles throughout the community. Teens will commit to attending three library programs (on topics such as college preparation and communication skills) and fulfill a service requirement at the library. Participation in this academy will look impressive on college applications and resumes, and it's also fun! Energy teens will also get priority regarding summer volunteer hours. Energy is open to teens in grades 9-12. Applicants do not have to be residents of Homer Township. The deadline for applications is February 16, 2009.

KIDS

Vote on the Bookmobile!
From February 1st - 13th, patrons can visit the Bookmobile to vote for your favorite Monarch, Caudill, or Lincoln book. Kids can also play the exciting Caudill "Memory" game!

Culture Club: Brazil -- Saturday, February 13th from 10am - noon
Take an adventure to the biggest country in South America - Brazil! Visit a land of magnificent beaches, vast rainforests, and music-filled cities. For kids in grades 2-5. Registration required.

The Homer Library is partnering with the Chicago Wolves Professional Hockey Team for our annual Winter Reading Program! Participants will earn chances to win a Chicago Wolves t-shirt, book bag, and other goodies! The more you read, the more chances you get to win! The program runs from February 1-28 and is open to children in pre-school through 8th grade. To sign up, visit the circulation desk!

Library Lover's Month
In celebration of Library Lover's Month, Homer Township Public Library will be partnering with local area restaurants to raise funds for programs and new collections at your library! Just visit Mimi's Cafe in Orland Park on Monday, February 8th from 4-8 pm and show our fundraiser voucher. Or visit Chesdan's in Homer Glen on Monday, February 15th and show your library card! Get together with some friends and enjoy a delicious pizza on your day off of school! You can also visit Chili's in Homer Glen on any Friday in the month of February and show our fundraiser voucher. You can pick up vouchers at the library, or print them out from home by clicking here! Thank you for your support!
