Library Catalog Lookup Bookmarklet

A bookmarklet is a small computer program which is added to your Web broswer as a Bookmark or Favorites link.

This bookmarklet checks whether we have a book that's listed on Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble. (It may work with some other bookseller sites, too.) It's not perfect, but it's still a handy little tool.

To add the bookmarklet to your browser

Internet Explorer

Right-click on the "Homer Library Lookup" link below, and select Add to Favorites. (Ignore any warning your computer gives about it possibly being harmful.)

To use the bookmarklet

(Note: For the bookmarklet to work, your browser needs to have JavaScript enabled.)

    1. Search for a book on Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble. The bookmarklet generally works better with hardcover editions than with paperback reprints.

    2. While you're viewing the bookseller's page about a specific book, open the Favorites, Links or Bookmarks menu on your browser's toolbar and select Homer Library Lookup.

    3. The bookmarklet will use the book's International Standard Book Number (ISBN) to search for the book in the Library's catalog. (The catalog will open in a new browser window.) The holdings of all the other libraries in the HAL catalog will be searched, too. Note: If editions of the book with different ISBNs are in the catalog, those copies will not show up in the bookmarklet search.

    4. If the book is owned by a HAL library and you have a Homer Township library card, you may click the "Place Hold" link in the catalog to request the book. You will need to enter your library card barcode number (without spaces) and your PIN (your default PIN is the last 4 digits of your barcode number). We'll contact you when the book is available to pick up at the front desk.
