LISTEN TO BOOKS ON A DIGITAL AUDIO PLAYER

In addition to our large selection of recorded books on audiocassettes and CDs, you may now borrow and listen to books on a digital player that's smaller than a deck of cards. Thousands of new and older novels, nonfiction books, classics, and children's books are available through the ListenIllinois library. These digital audiobooks are available free of charge to adults with Homer Township library cards, as part of your tax-paid library service. Read the instructions below, or view an illustrated instruction sheet in Microsoft Word format.

Instructions for Homer Township Library Cardholders

Follow this 2-part procedure to borrow a digital audio player loaded with the recorded books you choose:

Part 1: Select Books You Want to Hear

1. Search or browse the ListenIllinois catalog for recorded books you would like to hear.

2. When you find a book you want, click that book's "Add to Basket" button.

3. Create a Book Basket account or log in to your existing account by typing in your 14-digit library card barcode number (do not use an email address!) and a PIN that you make up. This does not need to be the same as the PIN you use for the Library catalog.

4. Add more items to your Book Basket, if you wish. The digital player holds about 18 hours of audiobooks. Depending on book length, 1 to 3 books usually fit on a player. It's a good idea to have a few items in your Basket, in case one of the books is unavailable when it's time for you to borrow a player.

5. If you change your mind and want to remove an item from your Book Basket, please call the Library.

Part 2: Reserve a Digital Audio Player

Digital audio players are reserved the same way that holds are placed on books.

1. Search the Library's online catalog for "Otis digital."

2. When you see the catalog information on the Otis digital audio player, click the Place Hold link.

3. On the "Place Hold" screen, type in your 14-digit library card barcode number, and your library card PIN (the default PIN is the last 4 digits of your library card number). Then click on the "Place Hold" button.

4. When a digital audio player is available for you, the Library staff will load books listed in your Book Basket (starting from the top of your list) onto the player before calling you to pick it up.

5. The player will have batteries, power and cassette adapters for use while driving, a belt-clip carrying case, and an instruction sheet. Headphones are not provided, but you may buy an inexpensive pair at the front desk.
