The Library's news feed uses a data format called RSS (or a similar format called Atom) to let you automatically receive updates to the Library's News & Announcements weblog and/or a weekly list of events from our calendar, without having to regularly visit our site. "RSS" usually is said to stand for "really simple syndication." This RSS feed is an option we provide for the convenience of Library users who like to get information that way, and it's sort of like subscribing to a magazine instead of going to a store to get each issue. We also provide an email delivery option for News & Announcements.
Because RSS and Atom are forms of a data-coding method called eXtensible
Markup Language, a feed offered by a site is often labeled
with an icon that says XML. (Sometimes, there's a fancier icon or
this symbol --
-- instead.)
To get the Library's feed, you use an RSS reader website or program (sometimes called an aggregator) and subscribe to our feed. Some Internet service providers include a feed reader in their users' home pages.
In general, you can subscribe to a feed by pasting its Web address into the reader. Subscribing to a number of different feeds makes it easy to keep on top of news from a variety of sources.
The address of our News & Announcements feed is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/HomerTownshipPublicLibrary
