Event Details
The Lemont Artists Guild is pleased to present experienced Fine Artist, Sarah Rehmer, who will do a live art demonstration of the versatile medium of Encaustic Painting, also known as hot wax painting. This involves heating a wax medium and paints. The molten mix is applied to a surface—usually prepared wood or hardboard, though other absorbent surfaces are sometimes used. She will discuss materials, substrates (what the wax is applied on), studio set-up, working methods and share sample works. Check out this versatile medium used by artists today that dates back to Ancient Egyptian times!
Sarah Rehmer was born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, and currently lives in the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago. In 2003, Rehmer earned her Bachelor’s of Art with double majors in Graphic Design and Photography from Dominican University in River Forest, IL. She lived in Italy the summer between her Jr. and Sr. years for study abroad and she knew she wanted to put her artistic skills to use in a more fine art capacity rather than with commercial work.
She found her love for working with pages from old books while auditing a class post-graduation at the university. She went straight into making and showing her mixed media/photographic works throughout the Chicago area and United States. Rehmer is an Illinois Arts Council grant recipient and her work is held in private collections in around the United States, Canada, Italy, and Norway, as well as Institutional and Corporate collections in Illinois and New York.
Rehmer teaches classes and workshops throughout the Midwest, and, on occasion, a little further away. She also has some online classes available on her website. Learn more about her at her website.
Open to all; you don’t have to be a Lemont Artists Guild member.
