TEEN VOLUNTEER CREW SUMMER 2022: APPLY NOW!
Want an easy & fun way to get service hours this summer? Be a part of our Teen Volunteer Crew! Teens gain credit for service hours by handing out coupons to Summer Reading Club participants. It's easy & fun!

The Volunteer Crew runs from June 11 - July 23. Shifts are just two hours per week. Teens must be in grades 7-12 as of Fall 2022.

TEEN VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
Are you a teen in grades 6-12 who needs to get service hours? We are currently holding one in-person teen volunteer event at the library each month, but we also offer at-home volunteer projects! The deadline for these projects is June 1, 2022.
NOTE: Service hours for at-home projects are open to teens living in Homer Glen or Lockport or students attending a school located within Homer Glen or Lockport. Service hours for at-home projects cannot be used for court ordered community service.

COLOR A SMILE
- Pick up Color a Smile coloring sheets from the library’s Help Desk or print them from home here. Use crayons or markers (no glitter) to color each sheet. Write your FIRST name only (no last name) and age on each sheet. Bring your coloring sheets to the library when you’re done!
- Fill out this form once you've completed your project.
- 1 service hour for 3 completed coloring sheets; can be done up to 3 times for a total of 3 hours.
- If you did this project before (in June – September 2021), you are still able to do this project! You can gain up to 3 more hours by coloring these new sheets.
KITTY CARDBOARD MOUSE
- Make a kitty cardboard mouse for The Anti-Cruelty Society. Directions are here. Supplies not provided by library.
- Fill out this form once you've completed your project.
- 1 service hour for 3 completed mice; can be done up to 3 times for a total of 3 hours.
LETTERS TO SENIOR CITIZENS: LOVE FOR OUR ELDERS
- Write a letter to a senior citizen who needs some joy in their life through Love for Our Elders. Directions and letter requests are here. Note the monthly deadline listed on that webpage and drop your letters off at the library at least 5 days before the deadline.
- Fill out this form once you've completed your project.
- 1 service hour for 2 completed letters; can be done up to 3 times for a total of 3 hours.
LETTERS TO ORPHANED KIDS: PAPER BRIDGES
- Write a letter to an orphaned child who needs some joy in their life through Paper Bridges. Directions are here (on right side). Sample letters are here. Drop off letters at the library; do not submit them to Paper Bridges on your own. We will mail them for you!
- Fill out this form once you've completed your project.
- 1 service hour for 2 completed letters; can be done up to 3 times for a total of 3 hours.
ORIGAMI CRANES
- Pick up origami paper from the library’s Help Desk. Create origami cranes for the Memorial Crane Project. A video on how to make cranes is here. Bring your cranes to the library when you’re done!
- Fill out this form once you've completed your project.
- 1 service hour for 3 completed cranes; can be done up to 3 times for a total of 3 hours.
- If you did this project before (in June – September 2021), you are still able to do this project! You can gain up to 3 more hours by making more cranes.
ONE PAGE ZINE
- Make a zine out of one page of paper. To see an example, click here. Instructions on making one page zines are here. There are three choices of topics: 1) a “how to” guide with tips on how to do something -- examples are how to be TikTok famous, how to level up in a video game, how to make a DIY scrunchie -- it can be anything you want! 2) reviews of books, movies, or TV shows 3) a fun, detailed list of your favorite things. For illustrations, you can choose to draw them or paste things you’ve printed from the internet or cut from magazines. Don’t forget to give your zine a title! You can write your first name or initials on it, but please don’t include your last name (or you can choose to leave your name off completely). Bring your zines to the library when you’re done! Copies of the zines will be given out for free to other teens at a later date.

POSTER ART FOR STUDENTS REBUILD
- Create poster art to help spark global change through Students Rebuild. Directions are here. Poster examples are here. Posters should be made on 8.5”x11” or larger paper/cardstock/poster board. Drop off posters at the library; do not submit them to Students Rebuild on your own.

- 1 service hour for 1 completed poster; can be done up to 3 times for a total of 3 hours.
TEEN BOOK REVIEW
- Read a teen book this summer & write a review here! You can read ANY teen book: novels, non-fiction, manga, graphic novels, or comic books. Reviews will be posted anonymously in the library’s teen room!
- Fill out this form once you've completed your project.
- 1 service hour for 1 completed review; can be done up to 3 times for a total of 3 hours.
- If you did this project before (in June – September 2021), you are still able to do this project! You can gain up to 3 more hours by writing more reviews.

From June through September 2021, the library offered a range of at-home projects that could be done for service hours. In these 4 months, 109 teens completed 383 hours of volunteer time -- wow!
We are thrilled that so many of you took part in these projects. Thank you to all of the teens who contributed!
